Benefits of Sciatica Treatment

Treating sciatica not only relieves pain but also offers several other significant benefits:

Pain Reduction:

The primary goal of treatment is to alleviate the intense pain associated with sciatica, improving the patient’s overall quality of life.

Improved Mobility:

Effective treatment can restore mobility and function, making walking, standing, and engaging in daily activities easier without discomfort or pain.

Prevention of Chronic Pain:

If left untreated, sciatica can worsen over time, potentially leading to chronic pain. Early treatment helps prevent long-term issues.

Better Posture and Body Mechanics:

Treating sciatica often involves exercises that improve posture and strengthen muscles, which helps prevent further nerve irritation.

Reduced Dependency on Medication:

With proper care, many patients can avoid prolonged use of painkillers or other medications that might have side effects.

Enhanced Mental Health:

Chronic pain can take a toll on mental well-being. Reducing sciatica-related discomfort contributes to better mood, reduced anxiety, and improved overall mental health.

How we approach sciatica at MHV Clinic

At MHV Clinic, your osteopath looks at the whole picture before recommending anything: your history, how the pain behaves, and how your lower back, hips and legs are moving. Treatment is usually gentle, hands-on work combined with advice on movement and exercises you can do at home. Results differ from person to person, and your osteopath will explain what is realistic for you.

What a typical course of treatment looks like

Sciatica can take several weeks to settle. Your first appointment focuses on a full assessment and easing your pain. Later sessions work on freeing stiff joints in the lower back and hips, easing tight muscles such as those in the buttock, and gradually building your strength and confidence to move.

What you can do at home

  • Keep walking in short, regular spells
  • Avoid sitting for long periods; stand and move every 30 minutes
  • Use heat on tight muscles for 10 to 15 minutes
  • Do your exercises little and often
