Treating Whiplash with Osteopathy in Central London

Whiplash is a common injury that can occur in a variety of situations, such as car accidents, sports injuries, and physical assault. It is caused by a sudden jolt or impact to the head and neck, which can cause damage to the soft tissues, muscles, and ligaments in the neck. I have been to many osteopath before at least 3- 4 different ones, but no one has been able to get to the root of the problem. It's normally a few clicks on the neck and spine and that is it. But, Poonam really focuses on the issue and loosens the tighten muscle. She advises on what exercises to do, pillow support for the neck and much more. My neck and shoulders feel much better now.

Understanding Whiplash and Its Causes

Whiplash is a common injury that occurs when the head and neck are suddenly jolted back and forth, causing a rapid and forceful movement of the neck. This injury can result in significant pain and discomfort, reduced mobility, and an overall decrease in quality of life.

The mechanism of whiplash injury involves a sudden acceleration-deceleration force that causes the neck to bend beyond its normal range of motion. This can result in damage to the muscles, ligaments, and other soft tissues in the neck, as well as the nerves that run through the area.

Whiplash is often caused by car accidents, but it can also occur from other types of trauma such as sports injuries, falls, or physical assault. The severity of the injury can vary depending on the force of the impact and the position of the neck at the time of the injury.

The most common symptoms of whiplash include neck pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion. Other symptoms may include headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and numbness or tingling in the arms or hands.

At MHV Clinic, our experienced osteopaths are highly trained in assessing, diagnosing, and treating whiplash injuries. We take a holistic approach to treatment, focusing on the individual needs of each patient and using a range of osteopathic techniques to promote natural healing and pain relief.

We work closely with our patients to develop personalised treatment plans that address their unique needs and goals. Our osteopaths use techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation, and stretching exercises to alleviate pain and restore function.

If you have recently experienced a whiplash injury, seeking prompt treatment is crucial to your recovery. At MHV Clinic, we are committed to providing our patients with the highest quality of care possible and helping them get back to feeling their best. Contact us today to schedule an appointment with one of our experienced osteopaths.

I was suffering with a constant stiff neck and shoulders which resulted in regular migraines. My wife reccomended that I should go see Poonam Shah a Senior Osteopath at Medical Home Visit. From my first visit she was able to find out what the route issue was and free my neck to provide more movement freely without any resistance. One good thing is she will never pressure you into booking more sessions and its truly down to yourselves to decide if the treatment works for you. She also provides excellent tips to take away with you to makesure the problem does not arise again. I highly recommend Poonam to anyone who suffers from regular migraines and wants a cure without the need for constant painkillers.

Exercises and Stretches for Whiplash Prevention and Management

One of the most effective ways to prevent and manage whiplash is to engage in regular exercise and stretching. Strengthening the muscles in your neck and upper back can help provide support to your spine and reduce the risk of injury. Simple exercises like neck rotations, shoulder shrugs, and chin tucks can be done at home to help improve your range of motion and reduce muscle tension. Gentle stretching exercises like neck stretches and shoulder rolls can also help to alleviate pain and stiffness associated with whiplash.

Lifestyle Changes to Manage Whiplash

In addition to exercise and stretching, making lifestyle changes can also help manage whiplash symptoms. Getting enough rest and sleep can help promote healing and reduce pain. Avoiding activities that exacerbate pain, such as prolonged sitting or repetitive neck movements, can also help manage whiplash symptoms. Maintaining good posture and ergonomics at work can help prevent neck and back strain, which can contribute to whiplash.

Poor posture can put unnecessary strain on the joints, which can contribute to the onset or worsening of arthritis symptoms. It’s important to practice good posture and ergonomics, especially when sitting for extended periods.

Maintaining a neutral spine position, with the ears, shoulders, and hips aligned, can help reduce strain on the joints. Using ergonomic chairs and desks and taking frequent breaks to stretch and move can also help prevent the development or worsening of arthritis symptoms.

Suffered from headaches for a very long time (years) dr labelled it as migraine but I didn’t think so. I saw Poonam on Instagram and got in touch. After diagnosis she recommended 4-6 sessions to sort out issue and 3 sessions later I’m headache free and once completed 5 sessions I am much better. Tuned out no migraine and it was bad back and shoulders pain contributing to headaches and stiff neck. I’m so glad I met Poonam and I highly recommend this amazing lady.
